You can make great pictures on fabric with bleach. A brush works, but for kids it's better to put the bleach in an empty roll-on deodorant so they don't get messy. If you're drawing on a T-shirt, put a plastic bag inside so the picture doesn't come through on the back.
Bleach only with an adult.
