A pocket abacus! It builds confidence with numbers when the fingers on both hands are no longer enough to count.
- Make 10 evenly spaced holes along both long sides of a matchbox (I used a piece of cork underneath so as not to crush it).
- Thread a wire through a hole, add 10 beads (5 of one colour, 5 of another) and pass it back through the hole on the other side. Repeat until you have 5 rows.
- Twist the ends together in pairs until they won't come apart.
- Cut off the excess and press the ends down.
- Cover the ends with washi tape so nobody gets hurt.
And now, let's count! This little box is for David :-)
